New Band: Santah
Jossles viewers meet the band Santah. Santah released their first studio album via No Sleep Records titled White Noise Bed earlier this summer. I bought the CD right away and loved it. Santah’s big song from their Album, White Noise Bed, is naturally White Noise Bed. However, many of their other songs are just as good. Personally, my favorite song from the album is No Other Woman. Check out their music by listening to the playlist at the bottom of the article. Directly below contains an exclusive Jossles interview with Santah’s guitarist/vocalist Vivian McConnell.
Jossles Interview With Santah Member Vivian McConnell
When did Santah start and how did the band form?
The current lineup of Santah is actually only one and a half years old, but we’ve been in the making for four years now! My older brother Stan McConnell and older cousin Mack have always been playing together. When they were freshmen at U of I they collected a variety of bandmates that is almost completely different than today’s lineup. Even my cousin Mack has moved on now. Steve Plock (drums) is from our hometown and played with Stan in high school. Otto Stuparitz (bass) and Tommy Trafton (keys) were friends of friends, and found themselves sticking around with Santah. When I was an eager freshman, I started singing with Santah, and eventually joined the band straight up!
What is the reason behind the name “Santah”?
The name Santah used to be without the “H,” but it eventually got added on. This is a common question, but I’m not sure anyone knows the true answer.
What was touring like this Spring and Summer?
Spring was incredible. We played SXSW, a huge music festival in Austin, TX, and had an incredible time. We had just been signed to No Sleep Records – which made it very exciting as well. They’ve been so awesome. During our summer tour, our album dropped, which was very special. On the east coast we swam in the Atlantic, got suntans, and spent way too much money/had way too much fun in New York. We have a huge tour planned for the month of August – check out our website to see all of those dates! http://santahmusic.com/
You’re still in college. Do you see Santah staying together after you graduate?
Well I’m the only one who hasn’t graduated yet. But after I graduate, whenever that will be, I’d love to stay together. That is what I want to do!
Can you tell Jossles viewers how they can get your album/see your shows?
Yes! Like Santah on facebook. Santah’s facebook page Check out our tourdates online! Go to santamusic.com Bring ALL of your friends to our shows. They get rowdy!
